August 10, 2007, Newsletter Issue #101: Will That Be Radioactive or Non-Radioactive?

Tip of the Week

A secret internal Philip Morris memo has revealed the company ignored warnings of lethal levels of radioactive polonium-210 in its cigarettes.

Polonium-210 (a dust-like byproduct of nuclear fission of uranium) sticks to tobacco leaves, vaporizes when smoked, and accumulates in small areas of the lung where lung cancer starts.
