Will That Be Radioactive or Non-Radioactive?
A secret internal Philip Morris memo has revealed the company ignored warnings of lethal levels of radioactive polonium-210 in its cigarettes.
The memo acknowledges elevated polonium levels were from the company's use of super phosphate fertilizers containing high uranium levels and says switching fertilizers would be "a valid but expensive point."
Polonium-210 (a dust-like byproduct of nuclear fission of uranium) sticks to tobacco leaves, vaporizes when smoked, and accumulates in small areas of the lung where lung cancer starts.
