How can I prepare mentally?

Prepare Mentally

Preparing to quit smoking is a hard thing to do. A big reason smokers fail when trying to quit is because they are not mentally capable of quitting. Before you quit smoking, there are a couple of things you can do to help mentally prepare yourself:

- Make a list!

On a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle to create two columns. In the right column, list every reason you have to continue smoking. In the left column, list every reason you have to quit smoking. Chances are, your left column will be larger by far. Hang this list somewhere that is viewable each day to remind yourself why you are taking the challenge to quit smoking.

- Pick a quit date!

Instead of just waking up one day and deciding to quit smoking, or choosing to quit “After this pack is gone”, pick a date and stick to it. Mark your chosen date on the calendar, and know without any ifs and or buts, that you will quit smoking on this day. A good time to choose may be right before a vacation or some other life event that will help keep your mind off smoking.
